Connecting with God: READ THE BIBLE!!

The Bible isn’t just a book; it’s the Living Word of God, capable of changing your life from the inside out. Reading the whole thing can seem like a big task though—don’t think you’re the only one who started strong only to get bogged down in the “begets” of Leviticus!

To help you out, we have a Through the Bible in a Year program. It’s certainly not the only way to read the Bible, but it has helped a lot of us to stay on track and create a consistent habit of getting into God’s Word.

Connecting with God: Baptism

If you’re just starting out with a relationship with Jesus Christ, baptism is definitely one of the next steps you’ll want to take to connect with God. It’s not just a symbolic gesture; it’s a powerful act of faith and obedience that is based in Scripture.

By being immersed, you are following Jesus’ example and identifying with His death, burial, and resurrection (Romans 6:4). We expect the same dramatic results that He received in baptism in Mattew 3:13-17—the heavens opened, the Spirit descended, the voice of the Father was heard, and the Spirit led Him to defeat the devil and begin his ministry. Paul compared baptism to Israel’s passing through the Red Sea in their exodus from Egypt (I Cor. 10:2). We claim the promise that the enemies pursuing us from our past are drowned in the waters of baptism!

Connecting with People: LIFE Groups

To keep growing spiritually, you have to engage in spiritual community. When Acts 2 describes the lifestyle of the early church, it says they met daily, shared meals, and had everything in common. The early believers understood how important it was to connect with other Christians. A great way to get involved with spiritual relationships is through our LIFE Groups.

LIFE Groups are small groups where you can meet with other believers for a Bible study, a meal, an activity, or a hobby that you enjoy—or just about anything you can think of. LIFE Groups are seasonal, lasting for 10-12 weeks in the Spring or Fall. Click here to look through our LIFE directory and see what groups are currently meeting or coming up soon. We know there’s a place for you in a LIFE Group.

Connecting with Purpose: Volunteering

When you’re ready for something to really propel your forward in your spiritual walk, it’s time to start serving. There’s no way to explain it; there’s just something about service that makes you feel incredible. The Bible calls the Holy Spirit the Helper. It just makes sense that when you help others, you’ll get closer to the Helper.

At Word Alive, there are innumerable places to volunteer. There are jobs for any skill set, and there are places where you can learn something totally new. They range from bagging dried beans to running a camera; you can change a diaper, paint a house, or design a Web page. No matter what you decide to do, you’ll be a part of a team that is changing lives! For more information on volunteering, attend the next "Connect For..." meeting.
